without paying the price for it.

For accomplished women who are done apologizing for taking the reins

You worked hard to earn your seat at the table.
You said yes to opportunities.
You proved yourself time and again.

And once you were there, it became harder to ignore that you were judged in ways men were not.

Speak up—and risk being labelled too much.
Stay quiet—and risk being overlooked.

Let yourself be interrupted and lose opportunities and respect.
Interrupt the interrupter and people think you’re rude and domineering.

This is the power penalty.

As a woman, you’re judged not just on what you do…
but how you do it.

So you adjust. You second-guess.
You work harder than you want to—just to be taken seriously.

And over time… you stop feeling like yourself.

Women usually have to work harder to be selected for promotions.
Then once they get there, they are judged for who they are as much as what they do.

The cost is not just professional.

It's the quiet erosion of your confidence.
The constant calculation of how you are perceived.
The tension of never quite feeling like you can just be yourself.

And the longer it continues, the more normal it starts to feel.

You are not imagining it.

And you don't have to navigate it alone.

Why This Works

In the environments you’re used to, you learn to manage perception.
To adjust how you show up.
To get it “right.”

That’s how you navigate the power penalty.

But with horses, that strategy doesn’t work.

You can’t perform your way into connection.
You can’t overthink your way into trust.

They respond to what’s real.

Which means you get immediate, honest feedback—
not on how you appear,
but on how you’re actually showing up.

And to get a different response…
you have to show up differently.

Not by doing more.
But by being clear, grounded and real.

That’s where the shift happens.

On the ranch, power is different

Out here, power isn’t something you prove.
It’s something you feel—and others respond to.

Horses don't respond to titles, performance or perfection.
They respond to presence. To clarity. To truth.

They don’t buy the performance.
And they don’t judge you for dropping it.

There’s nothing to prove.
And nowhere to hide.

You get honest feedback. Instantly.
Without politics. Without pressure.

This is where you stop adjusting…
and start leading.

And that doesn’t stay in the pasture.

You take it with you.

Back into the meetings.
The conversations.
The moments that used to throw you off.

But now—you’re clear.
Grounded.
Present.

And people respond to that.

That’s what changes.

When you stop paying the power penalty, everything changes

  • You speak clearly—without overexplaining or apologizing
  • You set boundaries—and people respect them
  • You trust your instincts in moments that used to throw you off
  • You stop second-guessing how you come across

You don’t have to choose between being respected and being yourself.

Out here, you learn to practice the kind of leadership that earns respect without costing you your voice.

What women are saying:

I felt completely safe to show up as myself

I came expecting a peaceful weekend. What I experienced was something far deeper.

I felt completely safe to show up as my authentic self, something I didn’t realize I was missing. The work with the horses and sound sessions helped me reconnect with how I truly feel without judgment.

I left with a sense of peace, clarity, and direction that is already shaping both my personal and professional life.

Jennifer Hudecki
CEO, Ground Force Training

I have been amazed by it all. Jocelyn was able to create and guide me through a day that allowed reflection, insight, being courageous, and allowing myself to be vulnerable.

I enjoyed the time with the horses, and Jocelyn’s guidance in seeing a bigger point of view in how I can show up in the world. It’s been a remarkable experience.

‘Cause it’s amazing and I think everyone has taken away something different, a little piece of their own and sharing that has been really been quite magical.

Your Host

Jocelyn Hastie, CPA

I grew up in the city, and after marrying a rancher's son, I found my heart in horses and country living.

With several years as an accounting supervisor/manager, I thought I knew something about leadership. I was astonished when the horses showed me that I'd absorbed the primary leadership style of that time, alternating between bullying and bribery.

Horses rely on their finely tuned senses for safety. They read the energy in each interaction, revealing lies and incongruence. Horses test boundaries, walk on doormats and avoid bullies.

They happily took my bribes of carrots and apples, but did not show any desire to follow my instructions. When I upped my energy, they avoided me.

I began to practice horsemanship under the guidance of an old cowboy who had a reputation as a "horse psychologist." I learned where I was making massive mistakes. Eventually, I guide a horse at liberty (without a halter or  lead rope) in a 60-foot round pen with the wave of my arm. See the video below for a demonstration.

I'd begun to grasp the essence of leadership—becoming a leader that others CHOOSE to follow out of trust and mutual respect.
A leader worthy of being followed.

My credentials:

I have a unique combination of three decades of both finance supervisory/management in the energy industry (CPA 1991) and in breeding, training, and showing Peruvian Horses.

In addition, my life-long learning has included the following certifications:

  • CPA (1991)
  • B. Comm. (1995)
  • Advanced Graduate Diploma in Management (1999)
  • Equine Gestaltist (2012)
  • Distinguished Toastmaster (2019)
  • Foundations of Woman-Centered Coaching (2023).
